Deskhand Privacy Policy
Vea Software LLC built Deskhand, a Mac menu bar app for arranging windows, opening apps with shortcuts, and taking screenshots. This page explains what information Deskhand uses and what happens to it. The short version: your windows and screenshots stay on your Mac, and we never see them.
Permissions Deskhand Asks For
- Accessibility lets Deskhand move and resize other apps' windows and switch between an app's windows when you press one of its shortcuts. Deskhand doesn't read the contents of your windows or what you type.
- Screen Recording lets Deskhand take the screenshots you ask for. It captures your screen only when you start a capture.
Screenshots and Text Recognition
Screenshots are copied to your clipboard, saved to a folder you choose (Pictures/Deskhand by default), or kept on screen as pins, depending on your settings. Copying the text in a screenshot uses Apple's on-device text recognition. Screenshots and recognized text are never sent to Vea Software or to any third party.
Information Deskhand Stores
Your shortcuts, the apps you've given shortcuts to, and your other settings are stored on your Mac. None of this is sent anywhere.
Network Access
Deskhand's only network use is checking for updates. About once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, it asks GitHub (api.github.com) for the list of Deskhand releases, sending only the app's name and version. When you install an update, it downloads the new version from GitHub. GitHub sees your IP address for these requests, as it would for any website; see GitHub's privacy statement. You can turn off automatic update checks in Deskhand's settings.
Analytics, Tracking and Advertising
Deskhand contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, does not use cookies, and does not track you across apps or websites.
Data Deletion
Deleting a saved screenshot removes it. Deleting the app removes its settings. You can also remove Deskhand's Accessibility and Screen Recording access at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.
Children's Privacy
Deskhand does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page. If a future version of Deskhand adds a feature that sends data off your Mac, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
