Motorlore Privacy Policy
Vea Software LLC built Motorlore, an app for iPhone and iPad that keeps everything about your vehicles. This page explains what information Motorlore uses and what happens to it. The short version: your records are yours. Without an account they stay on your device. With an account we store them only to back up and sync your garage and to answer your questions. We never sell your data, show ads or track you.
Using Motorlore Without an Account
Motorlore works fully without an account, and your garage then stays on your device and never reaches our servers. A few features contact other services, but only when you use them:
- VIN lookup sends the VIN you enter to the U.S. government's vehicle database (NHTSA vPIC) to fill in the year, make and model.
- Recall alerts send each vehicle's year, make and model (never its VIN or anything about you) to NHTSA's recall database, about once a day, to check for safety recalls.
- Find Manual opens a Google search for your vehicle's year, make and model in an in-app browser. What you do there is covered by Google's and those websites' own policies.
- The assistant uses Apple Intelligence on your device, and your questions and records stay on your device.
Information Stored With an Account
When you sign in, Motorlore stores the following on our servers to back up your garage and sync it across your devices:
- Account details: your email address, an account ID and your password. The password is stored only in a form we can't read (a one-way hash).
- Your garage: everything you add, including vehicles (with VIN, nickname and mileage), service records, modifications, purchases and their costs, notes, maintenance reminders, owner's manuals, documents you keep for a vehicle (such as its registration or insurance card) with their expiry dates, and the photos, receipts, scans and files you attach.
Each account can reach only its own data and the vehicles shared with it. The database enforces this itself, files are stored privately, and every connection uses HTTPS. Nothing you add is shared with anyone unless you share a vehicle.
Sharing a Vehicle
You can share a vehicle with family or anyone else by sending them an invite link. Each link works once and expires after 7 days. People you share a vehicle with can see and edit everything about that vehicle, including its records, photos, receipts, documents and manual, but not your other vehicles. You and they can see each other's email addresses.
What someone adds to a vehicle you share belongs to the vehicle and its owner, and stays when they leave. The owner can remove people at any time, and anyone can leave a vehicle shared with them. Deleting your account deletes the vehicles you own for everyone you shared them with.
Transferring a Vehicle
When you sell or give away a vehicle, you can transfer it to its new owner with a link that works once and expires after 7 days. When they accept it, the vehicle moves to their account with its service history, receipts, modifications, odometer readings, maintenance intervals, specs and the documents you choose, and they can see your email address. Your purchases and fuel log, your notes about it, the price you paid, its owner's manual, the documents you don't choose, and its costs unless you include them are deleted at that moment. People you shared it with lose access. The vehicle leaves your account and devices.
The Assistant
When you're signed in, Motorlore's assistant runs on our server and uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When you ask a question or log something, the app sends only what's needed to answer:
- your message and the recent conversation
- a summary of that vehicle's records, including the names and expiry dates of its documents (never the documents or scans themselves)
- when you scan a receipt, its text, read on your device (never the photo), so the assistant can tell what it's for and fill in the entry
- the passages of your owner's manual that match your question. To find a better passage, the assistant can also search the manual you've synced.
Our server sends this to Anthropic to produce the answer. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its models on it. For details, see Anthropic's privacy policy.
We don't log what you write to the assistant. For each request we record your account ID, the time, the request's size in tokens, and its cost. We use this to enforce daily limits and our budget.
To keep the assistant on your device, turn on Settings → On-Device AI Only. Apple Intelligence then answers, and your questions never leave your device. If you use Motorlore with Siri, Apple handles your request under its own privacy policy.
Camera, Photos and Notifications
Motorlore uses the camera and your photo library only when you choose to scan or attach a receipt, document or photo. When you add a document, Motorlore reads its text on your device to suggest its expiry date; that text isn't stored or sent anywhere. Maintenance and document reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No push token is collected.
We send emails only about your account, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. They're sent through Resend, which receives your email address for that purpose.
Motorlore Pro
Motorlore Pro is a subscription you buy through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card. We use RevenueCat to keep track of subscriptions: it receives your Motorlore account ID and your purchase history from the store, and our server asks it whether your account has Pro. We keep a record of your subscription (its product, store and renewal date) with your account. When you share a vehicle while you have Pro, the people you share it with get Pro too; they can see that it comes from your account.
Service Providers
- DigitalOcean hosts our servers and file storage in New York, USA, and stores your account and garage on our behalf.
- Anthropic powers the cloud assistant. It receives your messages and the records and manual passages they need.
- Resend sends account emails. It receives your email address.
- RevenueCat keeps track of Motorlore Pro subscriptions. It receives your Motorlore account ID and your purchase history.
- Apple provides Apple Intelligence and Siri.
- Google receives your vehicle's year, make and model when you use Find Manual.
- NHTSA (U.S. Department of Transportation) receives the VIN you look up, and your vehicles' year, make and model for recall checks.
Your data is stored and processed in the United States.
Analytics, Tracking and Advertising
Motorlore contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it doesn't track you across apps or websites. We never sell or share personal information for advertising.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Deleting your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) removes your account and garage from our servers right away, including vehicles you shared. Your files are removed within a day. Records you added to someone else's vehicle stay with that vehicle.
- Backups are kept for 14 days, so deleted data is gone from them within 14 days.
- Assistant usage records (an account ID, times, sizes and costs, but never what you wrote) are kept after an account is deleted. This stops someone from resetting their limits by deleting and recreating an account.
- Security records of sign-ins and account changes (the time, IP address and email) are kept for 90 days. Server logs rotate automatically and aren't archived.
- Signing out removes your garage from that device. It stays in your account.
- Deleting the app removes everything Motorlore stored on your device.
Your Choices and Rights
You can see and correct everything you've stored right in the app, export your history as a spreadsheet (Settings → Export History), and delete your account at any time. For a complete copy of your data, or to use any other right you have under laws such as the GDPR or California's CCPA, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Motorlore isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page, and significant changes will also be announced in the app.
This policy is effective as of 2026-10-11.
